PIE PEOPLE UNITE

 

Like many new businesses these days, Pie Society was born from an instagram post and the desire to comfort the community during the height of the pandemic. Chef Angela Pinkerton, with idle hands from the Covid shutdown, began baking her modern take on pies “popping-up” the summer of 2020 out of a friend’s closed restaurant in Oakland, CA, (thank you again, Corey & Sylvia.)

After some successful months of swooning customers with her Passionfruit Bayleaf Meringue and Biscuit Topped Chicken Pot Pies, she was beginning to out grow her borrowed space. Leasing a larger space in the West Berkeley(CA) Arts district, she began growing and shaping this new dream with a new goal. Not only did she want to comfort and unite her folk, the professed “pie person”, but win over others who have not yet discovered the luxuriousness of pie, using Pie Society’s dreamy and fun flavors, nostalgic takes on classic favorites, and by baking with the best, freshest, whole foods.

Angela grew up watching her grandmother Theorita bake pies from their apples grown in her grandparents' small Ohio hobby orchard. And while Chef Angela is a James Beard award-winning Pastry Chef with an extensive background in fine and modern dining via her past experiences at the Ritz Carlton(VA), Eleven Madison Park (NYC), Craftsman & Wolves, CheFico & (Theorita) CheFico Alimentari (SF), she always comes back to pie as her favorite dessert to bake and share. At Pie Society, she bakes using high quality organic and non organic, highly curated and local dairy, grains and produce, and believes in creating lasting relationships with farmers, local purveyors and customers in order to strengthen her surrounding community.

After three plus amazing years of baking for her San Francisco Bay community & growing from our Berkeley based kitchen, Chef Angela made the move back to the East Coast to be closer to family and friends. Pie Society has landed in New York’s Hudson Valley, and will be operating within Chef Angela’s new bakery, simply named Pinkerton’s, in Kingston, NY. At Pinkerton’s you’l be able to purchase a pie onsite daily as well as pre-order and pick up from its retail location - 8 Fair St., Kingston, NY 12401. Not only will your favorite pies be available but they be a whole menu including breakfast sandwiches and morning pastries, lunch items, and wider variety of nostalgic desserts. We’ll also continue to grow Pie Society through wholesale to quality businesses through out the Hudson Valley and by offering nationwide shipping.

Pinkerton’s opens sometime this August, 2024.
